How to apply for a metered standpipe

Approval must be obtained from Council for the connection to our water infrastructure as well as the hire of metered standpipes.

The application to remove water from Council's water infrastructure via a metered standpipe must be completed in full and all associated fees must be paid before approval is granted.

Metered standpipes are to be collected at, and returned to the Operations Centre located at 2 Victoria Street, Bundaberg East between the hours of 7.30 am and 3.15 pm, Monday to Friday.

The hirer, and and any employee or person acting on their behalf, must comply with all Acts, policies, procedures, conditions and requirements when using a metered standpipe and the hirer must accept full responsibility for any damage to person or property as a consequence of such use.

Metered standpipes fees and charges

A metered standpipe is a portable device for measuring the amount of water used from Bundaberg Regional Council's reticulation system.

Only metered standpipes owned by Council are to be used to connect and draw water from Council's water infrastructure. The fire brigade and emergency services are exempt.

Project hire conditions and FAQs

For all project hire applications, the hirer must present the hired standpipe meter for an assessment and read every three months or within 48 hours of Council's request.

A nil water consumption must also be provided, should the hired standpipe not have been used during the reporting period.

1. Are there any areas where a standpipe cannot be used?

Metered standpipes are not to be used in the Hummock area or the area bounded by (and including) Crook Street, Fermann Street, Woodward Road, Childers Road and the Ring Road Kensington or used in situations where a hose would need to be placed across a roadway.

2. My standpipe meter is not reading water consumption, what should I do?

You must report any fault/s with the hired standpipe within 24 hours and Council reserves the right to average or estimate water consumption in the event of a damaged/failed metered standpipe.

3. When will my security bond payment be returned?

The security bond paid shall be held in trust and will be refunded on return of the standpipe, providing the standpipe is not damaged. At Council’s discretion, the bond may be held until all fees and charges relating to the standpipe hire are paid in full.
