Where to stop and park in Bundaberg

To keep motorists and public transport passengers safe, road rules have been put in place to provide a safe transport environment for all users.

Council thanks residents and visitors for complying with these road rules:

Shared Zones

Shared zones are sign posted as "No Stopping/ No Standing areas and are regulated twenty four hours a day seven days a week. They are established to provide a safe area for pedestrians to cross the road and are not a suitable location to drop off or pick up passengers nor as a short-term parking spot.

Pedestrian Crossings

Pedestrian crossings are provided to create a safe area for pedestrians to cross the road. Parking in and around them is dangerous because it greatly reduces the ability of drivers to see pedestrians crossing and either slow down or stop.

Double Parking

Double parking is very dangerous and inconsiderate to other road users.  This restriction is valid at all times.

No Stopping/No Standing Areas

No Stopping/ No Standing areas are marked either by signage or by linemarking of a yellow unbroken line upon the road edge.  These areas include areas that are close to intersections and across driveways where access is needed. This restriction is valid at all times, as indicated by signage or line markings.

Bus and Taxi Zones

Parking of vehicles in Bus and Taxi zones is both dangerous and inconsiderate to the drivers and passengers of those types of vehicles. This restriction is valid at all times as indicated by signage.

Disabled Parking

Disabled parking bays are provided for the exclusive use of holders of valid permits only. The restriction on the use of these parking bays is valid twenty four hours a day seven days a week. The permits can only be used when the permit holder is travelling in the vehicle and the permit must be displayed to use these bays.

Time Regulated Parking

Time regulated parking is shown as a numerical time period such as 1 followed by the letter P and means a maximum of one hours parking after which the driver must leave the area and park elsewhere.

Loading Zones

To be eligible to use a Loading Zone, "commercial vehicles" are defined as vehicles that are being used for the transportation, loading and unloading of goods. Vehicles that have a commercial vehicle registration label issued by Queensland Transport are not deemed to be commercial vehicles for the purposes of using Loading Zones unless:

(a) The vehicle is over 4.5t GVM, or

(b) A motor vehicle (excluding any car or motorbike) constructed, fitted or equipped for the carriage of goods. These vehicles need to be readily identified as commercial vehicles by way of sign writing or another approved method.

Loading Zones are regulated between the hours of 8.45am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday and 8.45am to 11.30am Saturdays.  Public holidays are excluded.

The loading zones located in the CBD section of Bourbong Street Bundaberg are for commercial vehicles only for a maximum of 20 minutes for the purpose of loading and unloading goods and does not include activities such as personal banking or errands.

All other loading zones do allow passenger vehicles to stop for a maximum of two (2) minutes for the purpose of picking up and dropping off passengers. The driver of the vehicle must stay within three (3) metres of the vehicle at all times.

It is important to read the sign to ensure that you are entitled to stop there.

Using Taxis and Buses

When travelling on public transport such as buses or taxis, passengers are reminded that the drivers have to abide by the rules in regard to stopping and parking, so should refrain from making unreasonable demands upon drivers to stop or park in unsafe locations. While taxi drivers endeavour to drop passengers off at the requested location, if this is not possible they will park in the closest safe parking area.
