Bundaberg Regional Council Community Financial Assistance
Council is committed to working in partnership with community organisations to further develop our region. We recognise the role that individuals, community groups, clubs and organisations play in helping to build healthier and stronger local communities and promote the wellbeing of our residents.
Council offers a range of financial assistance programs to make it easier for members of the community to apply for funding. Round One of the 2009/2010 Community Grant Program closed on Friday 28 August 2009. Round Two closes on the last Friday in February 2010. Community Grants Programme
The Community Grants Programme is available to provide funding to community-based groups and organisations who are providing programmes, activities and projects that enrich the opportunities to residents.
Limited funds are available from the Community Grants Programme. Council will determine applications based on the funding criteria and the relative merits of applications. Please ensure you complete the correct form following the applicable guidelines.
The Community Grant Programme consists of three streams:
- Sport and Recreation
- Community Development, and
- Community Events
Sport and Recreation
The Sport & Recreation grant aims to provide financial assistance to sport and active recreation organisations towards opportunities to increase participation and towards new or upgraded sport and recreation facilities. Furthermore, it aims to provide opportunities to these organisations to increase the clubs capacity to raise funds and therefore increase their viability.
The following items will be considered for funding:
- Projects/programs/events:
- Contribute to building healthy and active communities
- Physical activity initiatives including disadvantaged groups
- Promote family orientated participation
- Increase the opportunity to participate in sport and recreation activities including regional and state events.
- Upgrades of existing facilities or development of new facilities, or
- Upgrades required due to Australian Standard compliance, or
- Modifications to improve disability access
Community Development
Community Development grants are made available to encourage the development of innovative programs in the areas of welfare, education and support.
Priority will be given to projects which include at least one of the following priorities:
- Reduce social isolation
- Enhance community health and safety
- Encourage participation in active citizenship and volunteerism
- Encourage partnerships and collaboration between community groups
Community Events
The Community Event grant aims to provide financial assistance to the community to support community events.
Priority will be given to projects which include:
- Community need and benefit,
- Level of community support for the project or activity,
- Capacity to increase community participation in the project or activity.
- Social returns to the community

Young People in Sport
The Young People in Sport (YPIS) aims to assist young athletes living in Bundaberg Regional Council area by providing a grant to assist with the cost of representing Queensland at National sporting competitions or representing Australia at International sporting competitions.

In -Kind
In-Kind Assistance is to provide assistance to community organisations through the provision of Council labour, services and or equipment.

Sponsorship
Please note:
Due to budgetary constraints the Sponsorship Program will not be offered in the 2009/2010 Financial year. Financial in-kind assistance is still available through Council's Community Grants Program and Community Financial Assistance Program. (please refer to the appropriate program for more information)
The aim of the Bundaberg Regional Council's Sponsorship Program is to provide financial assistance to local community groups/organisations who make positive contributions to the quality of life in the local government area.
Priority will be given to applications which include:
- Promotion of economic development in the area
- Promotion of co-operative regional development in the area
- Enhanced economic/cultural/social opportunities for residents
- Enhanced health and safety for residents
- Research and development projects relevant to the region
- Capital improvements to create a community asset
- Meet a demonstrated need within the community

Jupitors Casino Community Gambling Fund (JCCBF) provides one-off grants up to $150,000 to Queensland based not-for-profit community groups (within the geographical jurisdiction of Queensland and New South Wales border, to the northern boundaries of Boulia, Winton, Aramac, Belyando and Broadsound), for projects of broad community benefit.
The Gambling Community Benifit Fund (GCBF) provides one-off grants up to $30,000 to Queensland based not-for-profit community groups, for projects of broad community benefit.
The Volunteer Grants Program provides small grants of up to $3000 (inclusive of GST) to volunteer groups in the ‘not for profit' sector of our community.
The Queensland Government, through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation provides in excess of $40 million through funding programs towards new improved opportunities for people to participate in sport and active recreation, to improve the skills of the sport and recreation industry providers and participants, and to provide places for Queenslanders to 'Get Active'.
