Storm Tide Study

Residents who have photos of storm tide are being invited to provide them for a study, commissioned by Bundaberg Regional Council, aimed at understanding the risk of storm tide impacts.

Chairman of Planning and Development, Cr Ross Sommerfeld said it was important to get as much photographic evidence of storm tides as possible. “Council is asking for photographs and records detailing historical storm tide events to assist the consultants BMT WBM Pty Ltd. Local knowledge of storm tides will be invaluable in completing the study and members of the community are encouraged to provide copies of relevant information.” Cr Sommerfeld said.

Fencing at Coonarr underway

Much needed fencing is due to be installed along Coonarr Beach Road to prevent vehicles accessing Coonarr Beach and the southern side of the Elliott River foreshore via the tidal wetlands. The work is being undertaken by Bundaberg Regional Council in partnership with OceanWatch Australia with funding from the Federal Governments Caring for our Country program.

Portfolio Councillor Danny Rowleson said it was an important step. “The wetlands adjacent to Coonarr Beach Road are important fish, prawn and crab breeding and feeding grounds. Present vehicular access through and around the wetland from Coonarr Beach Road to Coonarr Beach is causing significant damage and loss of habitat values.

Bundaberg Businesses to have a say in future direction

Bundaberg Region businesses are urged to attend a Forum that will give them the opportunity to have a say in the future of the region. Bundaberg Regional Council is holding the Economic Development Forum on Friday 20
November from 9am at the PCYC. Admission is free and a light lunch will be served at the end of the Forum.
Council's Economic Development Manager Naomi Searle said it was an ideal opportunity for businesses to find out what is happening and to have their say. "We will be providing an update on Council's Economic Development Strategy, following on from last year's initial forum. We're also asking for input from all businesses so we can form future strategies for the growth and direction of our region". Ms Searle said.

Council patrols our Beaches

Council is taking steps to ensure
our beaches are safe and enjoyable - both for residents and for turtles, whose
egg laying season has just begun.

Council is introducing a programme of daily beach
patrols to regulate uncontrolled dogs seven days a week.

Portfolio Councillor Mary Wilkinson said: "This is a
health and environmental issue. Dogs need to be controlled by their owners at
all times in public areas, particularly on our beaches. Quite often, there are
also health issues if owners are not particular in cleaning up after their dogs"
Cr Wilkinson said.

In an email to
