Local company awarded tender for Regional Athletics Facility

October this year has been set for the completion of the Bundaberg Regional Athletics Facility after local family company, Murchie Constructions Pty Ltd, was awarded a $3.8M contract to complete the complex.

Bundaberg Regional Council accepted the $3,855,861 tender from Murchie Constructions to be the Principal Contractor for the facility after advertising State wide for providers.

The tender price includes nominated sub-contractor Sports Technology International to construct a synthetic track surface at the facility.

Council’s spokesperson for Sport and Recreation Cr. Lynne Forgan said Council expects to hand over the Kensington site next month to allow construction of the internationally certified facility to begin.

“The athletics facility will be part of a larger Bundaberg Super Park site at the Kensington Residential and Business Airpark next to the regional airport” Cr. Forgan said.

“The project involves relocating the existing athletic club from adjacent the Agrotrend grounds to allow for the creation of the Bundaberg Recreational Precinct, which is a separate project expected to greatly benefit local sports, events and economy” she said.

“The athletics facility will put Bundaberg in contention to host State level events and championships and bring an estimated $2.8 million annually to the region” she said.
