The future direction and format of the Childers Festival of Cultures will be discussed at a public information session hosted by Bundaberg Regional Council.
Leading Events Consultant Jan Bimrose will present the findings of a Strategic Review of the hugely successful annual event at the public meeting on Monday 27th February.
Council's Mayor Cr. Lorraine Pyefinch said the review of the festival followed a recommendation to enhance the sustainability of the Festival, with subsequent funding, from Events Queensland.
“The review covered all aspects of the iconic festival which has been held in Childers on the last weekend in July for the past 16 years” Cr. Pyefinch said.
Cr. Pyefinch said the review process sought comment from a range of Childers business and community representatives, with the public information session an opportunity to hear the results of the review and to have a say.
“We encourage residents and businesses to come along to the public information session, hear Jan Bimrose’s interesting findings and provide feedback and suggestions about the future running of the festival” Cr. Pyefinch said.
Division 2 representative Cr. Tony Ricciardi said since its inception, the festival had provided a tremendous boost to the Childers district, both financially and culturally.
“The festival was a great initiative of the former Isis Shire Council and the tradition has continued just as successfully under the Bundaberg Regional Council” Cr. Ricciardi said.
Cr. Ricciardi said the 2012 festival will again draw many thousand of people to Childers. “The public information session is a perfect opportunity for everyone interested in contributing to its continued success to listen to Consultant Jan Bimrose’s findings and her suggestions to ensure the festival continues to delight the Childers community and visitors to Childers for decades to come” said Cr Ricciardi.
The session will be held at 6pm at the Isis Club in Childers on Monday 27th February. Anyone wishing to come along is asked to RSVP for catering purposes by Thursday 23rd February by phoning Bundaberg Regional Council’s Events Unit on 1300 883 699.
