Continuing wet weather and flooding at Booyal Crossing has caused reconstruction works of the timber bridge over St Agnes Creek on Walla Road to be delayed.
The refurbishment work was scheduled to commence this week as part of an upgrade of the bridge after flood waters caused extensive damage to the structure.
A load limit of 15 tonnes is currently in force on St Agnes Creek Bridge and will remain in place until the refurbishment works have been completed.
Council’s Roads and Drainage Infrastructure spokesperson Cr. Wayne Honor said the delay to the reconstruction work is due to more recent heavy rain and flooding of the Booyal Crossing, which would have been used as an alternative route while the bridge repairs were being done.
“The recent rain has also inundated the St Agnes creek bed, making it difficult to install scaffolding” said Cr Honor. “It is proposed that works will recommence when the bridge construction crew is next available, which may be in three months”
The work would still require road closures from 9:00am to 2:00pm and signs will be displayed when this closure is imminent.
