A staged project to replace trees in the Bourbong Street centre median in Bundaberg will begin this weekend.
Ergon Energy will begin removing trees between Burrum Street and Mulgrave Street this Sunday (October 16th).
Council’s Health and Environmental spokesperson Cr. Mary Wilkinson said the removal of the trees in the centre median was the first stage of a project to remove unsuitable trees and replace them with flowering natives.
Cr. Wilkinson said the trees including Fig, Camphor Laurel and Rosewood and Bunya and Hoop pines will be replaced with Golden Pendas to create a beautiful avenue of flowering natives.
“Ergon Energy will begin the project on Sunday by removing the existing trees which are growing into powerlines, while some have been declared weed species” Cr. Wilkinson said.
“This will allow Council to begin planting the native trees next week” she added.
Cr. Wilkinson said development of the tree replacement project had included consultation with Ergon Energy, Department of Transport and Main Roads, residents and business owners in the vicinity of the affected areas and members of the public.
