Bundaberg Regional Council has announced an amnesty on businesses undertaking Environmentally Relevant Activities. (ERA's)
The amnesty period will run until 28 February 2010. This will give
relevant businesses who aren't yet licensed the chance to complete the
applications for the licensing and registration of their business.
On completion of the amnesty period, Council will undertake a blitz
throughout the region and any premises identified at this stage may be
guilty of an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1994.
Section 427 (1) of
this Act makes provision for penalty infringement notices (fines) to be
issued to individuals and/or corporations that operate an
environmentally relevant activity without a registration certificate.
The prescribed penalty for an individual equates to $500.00, and that
of a corporation is $2,000.00.
The Queensland Environmental Protection Act 1994 and its subordinate
legislation requires Local Government to licence businesses undertaking
activities best described as Environmentally Relevant Activities
(ERA's).
