Council brightens Burnett Heads with new tourism icon

Council will unveil the first of its local Holiday Park ‘icon theme' initiatives at the Burnett Heads ‘Lighthouse' Holiday Park - a bright and dynamic ‘marine life' mural - this Wednesday at 9am.

The mural was designed and painted by local artist Tara Lea and featues life-like recreations of whales, dolphins, turtles and other marine life who enjoy the waters in front of the popular Council holiday park property. Bundaberg Regional Council's business unit Bundaberg Holiday Parks will be launching similar local icon projects in each of its other properties in Elliott Heads, Miara and the Bundaberg CBD.

Division 6 Councillor Danny Rowleson said he was thrilled to unveil the mural on Wednesday in front of Council and park management and visitors. "This mural is an attractive depiction of what makes the Burnett Heads ‘Lighthouse' Holiday Park so unique and popular amongst visitors. It will certainly add a splash of colour to Burnett Heads, and help inform park residents and guests of the diverse range of sea life found in local waters"'.

Council's Tourism Manager Craig Hodges said Council recognised the Burnett Heads ‘Lighthouse' Holiday Park as an important tourism asset to the Burnett Heads community. "The mural and other infrastructure and amenity upgrades underway at the Holiday Park reflect our commitment to operating the business as a sustainable commercial asset. Mr Hodges said.

Team Leader of the Burnett Heads ‘Lighthouse' Holiday Park Di Brickell was equally excited by the project's unveiling. "The entire Bundaberg Holiday Parks team works very hard to promote our waterfront properties to tourists and visitors as relaxed, friendly, idyllic holiday destinations and this mural reflects what we love about Burnett Heads" Ms Brickell said. "I'm a proud resident of Burnett Heads and am passionate about the area's future, so I hope the new mural will earn its place as a local icon amongst caravan travellers to the Bundaberg Region".

The Burnett Heads ‘Lighthouse' Holiday Park is located on the waterfront off Zunker Street in Burnett Heads.  The property is a commercial accommodation asset of Bundaberg Regional Council, operated by Council's Tourism team, along with the Finemore, Elliott Heads and Miara Holiday Parks, as well as the Hinkler Hall of Aviation, Café 1928, The Aviator's Store, Childers Visitor Information Centre and other assets.
