What is Picture Bundaberg?
Picture Bundaberg is a project to collect, scan, digitise, and preserve the visual history of Bundaberg and District. We ask members of the public to bring in their photos, slides, etc, that show some aspect of the area's history. This might include pictures showing social history, buildings, landmarks, events, people, landscapes, natural disasters, and so on.
The Picture Bundaberg project has been inspired by similar projects Picture Queensland and Picture Australia.

These images will be available to view in future from the Library's Catalogue. Printed copies of some photos may be available for purchase, subject to copyright and conditions.

What is the Purpose of Picture Bundaberg?
There are many reasons for the implementation of the Picture Bundaberg project:
  • It serves as a visual record of Bundaberg and District's history and cultural heritage.
  • It will be a record of streetscapes, buildings, events, people, fashions, housing, society, etc, so there is a reference for the public now and into the future.
  • It preserves our visual history as before images are lost, damaged, or destroyed.

What are the Benefits of Picture Bundaberg?
Benefits of Picture Bundaberg include:
  • Students, researchers, authors, genealogists, the general public, and future generations, are able to easily and perpetually access this record.
  • It is accessible at all times with an Internet connection, it is not restricted to 'walk-in' clients only.
  • The preservation of our local history is a vital service to the public.

How Can You Get Involved?
Do you have some pictures in your family that show an aspect of the Bundaberg area's history?

Bundaberg Regional Library Service invites you to either donate your images to our local photographic archive, or bring them in to have them scaned and digitally preserved.

We're looking for anything to do with Bundaberg and surrounding areas over the last 100-plus years, and any relevant information about the image you can gather.

For more information, or to arrange an image scan, please contact us on phone 4130 4136, or write to library@bundaberg.qld.gov.au.nospam (remove '.nospam' from end of address before sending).

It would be appreciated if, prior to coming into the Library, you could ring/email Sue Gammon (Picture Bundaberg Coordinator) to make an appointment, especially if you would like your images scanned while you wait.
