The funds raised by the Friends of the Library have benefited the Library in many ways, and the children's area has been the recipient of sponsorship for competitions, author visits and storytelling seminars. This year, Friends of the Library have donated funds to revamp the Youth area in the Bundaberg Library.

On April 30th, the library service will celebrate 10 years in the Woondooma Street building. Over the years, it has become obvious to the Library staff, that a separate area for teenagers and youth was needed, away from the children's area. It involved a lot of reorganizing and shifting of library shelves, but we have finally started to develop a space for Young Adults in the library.

Borrowers may have wondered at the mass movement of sections of the library in the last few months, as the children's area expanded to include comfortable armchairs, and open spaces, while the adult non-fiction sections marched forward a few metres. All this upheaval has resulted in a Youth Area leading off from the children's section. Funds donated by the Friends have enabled us to purchase bright sofas, rugs and furniture, with future plans including new display areas and shelving.

It is exciting to see the library evolving with new facilities for different sections of the community, and we hope that the Young Adult space will be enjoyed by many people. This could not have been possible without the fine efforts of the Friends of the Library, and of course, the support by the community who have cheerfully anted up for Library bags, raffles etc., over the years.
