Bundaberg Library has had its own website, at least in its current form, since about 2002. You will find it at: http://www.bundaberg.qld.gov.au/library.
Its aim is to keep members informed of news and events in the library, and to make as much information as possible available outside the library's normal operating hours, with the ease of access which the Internet enables. Our website features information expected of such a site including details on library membership, opening hours, news, contacts, and a brief history of the service. Library policies and information about our volunteer Friends of the Library group also may be found on the site. A fairly recent and quite major addition to our website has been the inclusion of an online catalogue. This catalogue enables people who have an Internet connection to search, from outside the library, our stock of books, CDs, DVDs and videos to ascertain what resources are held at the library. What makes this addition even more special is the added functionality of a borrower themselves being able to both reserve items on loan and to update or renew items they have on loan. This has helped to make use of the library even more convenient for many borrowers who can save time or a phone call by simply being able to peform such standard tasks themselves and in their own time. The website also features sections on the majoir services provided by the library such as reference, Internet, children and youth services. It is in these sections of the website that you will find the bulk of information on the site. For example the reference section includes links to adul fiction and non-fiction booklists, student fact sheets, local history and genealogy resources, online databases which library members have free access to, and tips for finding information and resources within the library. The Internet section provides information on Internet use within the library, Internet lessons conducted in the library, our series of web guides on different topics, and so on. In the children and youth sections you will find links to relevant fiction and non-fiction booklists, websites, fact sheets, and activities. The site has been developed with several factors in mind. One of the most important is that its focus should be on providing useful content and not just on looking pretty. We are proud of our website and believe that it is easy to navigate and easy to read. Maintaining the site and keeping the information on it up-to-date is a large and time-consuming task. With very few exceptions, the site is updated once per week. As time permits sections of the site such as booklists, web guides, and student fact sheets are updated. In fact our adult non-fiction booklists and student fact sheets have been updated recently and printable versions of these lists and fact sheets are now available from the website. If you have not looked at our website for a while, why not check back in again? There is a great deal of useful information to be found, and library news and events are highlighted on the front page.
