Joining the Library

Free membership of the Bundaberg Regional Library is open to all permanent residents and ratepayers of the Bundaberg Regional Council area, providing you are able to meet the criteria set out below. If you are not a permanent resident of the Bundaberg Regional Council area, and/or are unable to meet the criteria below, the options listed in "How to Join - Non-residents and non-ratepayers" may be available to you.

The Bundaberg Regional Library has much to offer its members. In return we ask that parents/guardians control children in their care while in the Library and that young children not be left unattended. If children are taking part in supervised holiday activities, they should be collected when the activity is completed.

We reserve the right to request proper conduct and to determine inappropriate behaviour which may offend, injure or disturb other Library users, staff, facilities or items.

You must show at least 2 forms of personal identification that display your current address. Acceptable forms of identification are:

  • Current rates notice
  • Current electoral card
  • Driver's Licence
  • Utility Account (Phone, Electricity, Gas)
  • Pension Card
  • Health Care Card
  • Rent Receipt (with current address mentioned)

If you are under 18...
If you are under 18 you must be signed in by a parent or guardian. Your parent or guardian must either be a current member of the Library, or be a ratepayer or permanent resident of the Bundaberg Regional Council area and therefore eligible to join the library. If the parent or guardian is not already a member of the Library, they must show 2 forms of personal identification as outlined above, in order to sign up the person under 18.

Please note: Parents or guardians signing for a person or persons under 18 are responsible for the use of that membership card and any fines/costs on that card associated with overdues, lost items, and so on.

How to Join - Non-residents and Non-Ratepayers

Those persons who are not permanent residents or ratepayers in the Bundaberg Regional Council area, or who cannot provide proof of residency or payment of rates, have the following membership option:

Refundable Security Deposit: If you are a visitor to the area, or if you are a resident unable to provide proof of residency, you are able to join the Library by paying a refundable security deposit.
Limits apply to the number of items which can be borrowed by security deposit members. See the Borrowing and Returning page for more information on borrowing limits.

We accept payment by cash or cheque only (no credit card or EFTPOS facilities are available). Your deposit is refunded by cash only.
You must present your receipt and have returned all items, plus your membership card, to receive your refund. As the refund must be signed for by the person whose name it is under, only the person who took out the membership is able to collect the refund.

Annual Subscription: Persons residing in a surrounding shire (eg, Gladstone Regional, North Burnett Regional) who can provide proof of address (2 forms of ID with their name and street address) are able to join the Library by paying an annual (and non-refundable) subscription. See Library staff for more information.
