Around the World Exploring Stories of Mystery and Excitement!

About AWESOME!

Please note: the AWESOME program is full.
AWESOME, which stands for Around the World Exploring Stories of Mystery and Excitement, is a reading program for children aged between 4-16 years. It runs from September 2005 to the end of school term 1 2006. It is hoped that the program will encourage both avid and reluctant readers to read, and particularly, to try new authors and genres.

Darlene Hill (Learning Place Co-ordinator with Education Queensland, based at Bundaberg North State High School), Sue (Bundaberg Library Youth Services Librarian) and Peta (Bundaberg Library Internet/Reference Librarian), put together an application for grant funding to run the program through the State Library of Queensland Library Strategic Development Grants. This grant was approved and has enabled us to design and develop the program, and offer great competitions and prizes.

Participation in the AWESOME program was available to a limited number of members joining through Bundaberg Library, and a limited number of members joining through their school. The only difference between school membership and library membership is that those joining through their school may have the opportunity to participate in online activities such as author chats. This online component is the domain of Darlene Hill, Learning Place Co-ordinator.

AWESOME is unique in Queensland, and as far as we know, unique in Australia, as a co-operative venture between the public library and school libraries.
