Business Bundaberg brands the Economic Development Unit for Bundaberg Regional Council.
Business Bundaberg is responsible for proactively supporting a sustainable regional economy through industry development initiatives and investment attraction programs. This is undertaken in collaboration with our community, local business and other levels of government to achieve maximum positive outcomes.
Business Bundaberg understands local business and partners with potential investors to create business opportunities, facilitate access to funding, assist with location selection and generate networking connections.
Bundaberg Regional Council firmly believes our region’s investment potential is boosted by its strategic location, its consistent climate and well established transport linkages which offer great and unique opportunities for investors to capitalize on the mining and energy corridors to the north and west and the major domestic markets to the south.
Council is fully committed to building a better future for its community and has developed an Economic Development Strategy as a key priority. The Strategy focuses on six main areas including – tourism, manufacturing, innovation and technology, agriculture and horticulture, lifestyle and the port and marina opportunities.
Strategic competitive advantages, including a low cost base and skilled workforce has encouraged many companies such as Superior Pak, Azmeb Global Trailers and Tasman Warajay to recently expand operations in the region. The region also boasts several established and innovative aviation businesses including Jabiru Aircraft and Engines, Microair Avionics, Camit Pty Ltd and is home to the Bundaberg Technology Park which offers world class manufacturing and engineering facilities.
The Bundaberg region is one of the few regions in Australia with high water allocations currently available from bulk supply schemes for purchase and/or lease. Some 16,000 ML is available for urban and industrial use (high priority) and a further 100,000 ML is available for agriculture and horticultural use (medium priority).
This fact coupled with the region’s rich soil contributes to our reputation as being the State’s food bowls growing a diverse range of crops.
Sugar has long been the backbone of the region providing employment opportunities through the mills and allied manufacturing and agricultural sectors with the district producing approximately one fifth of State’s sugar crop.
Added to this is the ever expanding small crop industry including the largest producer of tomatoes in Australia, SP Exports, as well as zucchini, chillies, capsicum and sweet potatoes farmers to name a few. Tree crops including macadamia and avocado also form a huge part of the agricultural industry in the region and inject over $1 billion dollars into the district.
Access and transport infrastructure to the Bundaberg region is via road, rail, air and sea. The city is accessed from Queensland’s major coastal vehicle route, the Bruce Highway with several bus companies servicing the region.
The revolutionary Tilt Train provides a number of services per day between Bundaberg and Brisbane and north to Cairns in both business and economy class travel. Queensland Rail also operates its general freight service (Qlink) which provides door-to-door service by utilising rail and road transport with a depot located in Bundaberg.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s airport terminal caters for intrastate scheduled public passenger transport services for the region with strengthening and lengthening upgrades ensuring the runway is “jet ready”.
The region is also served by several marinas on the Burnett River with the Burnett Heads marina offering boat repairs, a 50 tonne slipway and on-water refuelling. The Port of Bundaberg Marina provides 160 floating berths, 70 tonne travel lift, hardstand and repair facilities, licensed restaurant and marine electronic repairs. Midtown Marinas, located in the centre of Bundaberg, offers 80 marina berths, 50 moorings, 5 fit-out berths and on-water refuelling.
