About Us

Business Bundaberg brands the Economic Development Unit for Bundaberg Regional Council.

Business Bundaberg is responsible for proactively supporting a sustainable regional economy through industry development initiatives and investment attraction programs. This is undertaken in collaboration with our community, local business and other levels of government to achieve maximum positive outcomes.

Business Bundaberg understands local business and partners with potential investors to create business opportunities, facilitate access to funding, assist with location selection and generate networking connections.

Bundaberg Regional Council firmly believes our region’s investment potential is boosted by its strategic location, its consistent climate and well established transport linkages which offer great and unique opportunities for investors to capitalize on the mining and energy corridors to the north and west and the major domestic markets to the south.

Riding the Wave

Resource Sector Opportunity Forum

We would like to thank all the participants at our 'Riding the Wave' Resource Sector Forum held last Wednesday morning at the Bundaberg RSL. We have had an overwhelmingly positive response from the breakfast and the opportunity to share some of the great work the various individuals and organisations are doing on behalf of the Bundaberg community.

Again can we thank all of the members of the Bundaberg Resource Sector Working Group, particularly those that presented, for your time and input over the last few months and your contribution to the successful staging of the event at the RSL.

Bundaberg Regional Council has a number of projects we are continuing to work on in relation to the resource sector and we hope to be able to report some further positive outcomes in the future.

About NBN & the Bundaberg Rollout

Bundaberg has fortunately been identified as one of the regions to be rolled out with NBN fibre over the next three years and Bundaberg Regional Council is well advanced in planning and preparing for this national infrastructure. We have been working internally and with groups such as the Broadband Today Alliance to maximise our opportunities and to stay informed on the contemporary issues that residents and the business community face. Fast Rail

Fast Rail

The Fast Rail Feasibility study has almost been finalised and we would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support of the study. Julie Tanner who presented to the Riding the Wave Resource Sector Opportunity Forum in April and is preparing the report congratulated the Bundaberg Region for our positive attitudes and optimistic approach to resource opportunities and said that our community “has got it together”.  Julie also made further comment on the enviable position of the Bundaberg Region and the vibrancy of our business community in tough economic times.

The Economic Development Unit will continue to work with representatives regarding business opportunities in the resource sector and relay information as it becomes available via our website and e-Newsletters.

Calling Information & Communications Technology Companies

Fibre.jpg

As part of Business Bundaberg's Digital Economy Priority Project we are making a compilation of all soft ICT infrastructure for the region (i.e. - web designers, programmers, ISP's, etc).

At this stage we only need basic information (i.e. - name, phone, email, website, address and business description) which can be submitted through our simple online form below.

We are collecting this data in conjunction with other Council's in the Wide Bay Burnett and the State Government which we believe will assist our region in becoming NBN ready. Business Bundaberg is focused on supporting SME's to take advantage of the developing technologies and systems.

Submissions will be received until 31 May 2012. If you would like further information please email business@bundaberg.qld.gov.au

Students gaining from ‘Uni City’ momentum

CQUniversity.png

Bundaberg students are already gaining from momentum established in the wake of the ‘University City’ Accord between CQUniversity and Bundaberg Regional Council. The Council’s pledge includes a commitment to offer three engineering student cadetships, aligned with the introduction of first-year engineering programs at CQUniversity Bundaberg Campus from 2013.

The cadetships will offer financial support for study and vacation employment within the Council operations. Two Bundaberg students are off to a flying start with their studies at CQUniversity, thanks to a 2012 Vice-Chancellor's Academic Excellence Scholarship which covers half of their tuition costs for the duration of their degree. Recipient Aiden Sibley gained an OP2 after studying through the Brisbane School of Distance Education and Kepnock High. He'll put his scholarship to good use while studying towards a Bachelor of Information Technology degree.  The other recipient, Carissa Miller, also gained an OP2 through her studies at Shalom College. She's enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing degree.
